The season will conclude with a celebration of the beauty and skill of traditional handiwork. From September 25 through October 18, the Kirkman House will present a special display of quilts and examples of lace making, highlighting the artistry and creativity that were essential parts of everyday life.
The quilts on display showcase a variety of patterns, fabrics, and stitching techniques, reflecting both practical household needs and the expressive talents of the women who created them.
Alongside the quilts, visitors will see examples of several styles of lace making—delicate, intricate work that transformed simple thread into elegant decorative trim for clothing, linens, and household furnishings.
Together, these handcrafted pieces offer a glimpse into the traditions of sewing circles, family heirlooms, and the quiet hours of careful work that helped shape domestic life in earlier generations. This exhibit invites visitors to appreciate the craftsmanship behind these beautiful objects and the generations of makers whose skills and creativity continue to inspire today.
